Initiatives

During August 2007, the officials of the Federation visited Delhi to study the existing trends in handicrafts marketing. They visited the exclusive market for promotion of handicraft and tourism in Delhi by name “Dilli Haat” which attracts both Delhites and tourists. The market creates opportunities for    thousands of artisans for better livelihood and also helps to preserve the     traditions of many states of India.

The Federation proposed to take up few other initiatives in the production of handicrafts by visiting viable existing models in Far East Asian countries like Vietnam & Thailand, so as to learn new ideas from their success stories. These countries have achieved enviable success in enabling the rural poor to overcome their poverty through handicrafts. The projects operated in these countries are coordinated and co-funded by Government and other agencies.

Accordingly the Federation proposed to send a four member team to visit Thailand & Vietnam. The Govt. of Puducherry has accorded permission vide Office Memorandum No. 167812/CS  (Co-op)/A1/2007 dated 10th September 2007 for four members to visit Thailand & Vietnam from 11th to 17th October 2007 to study various forms of handicrafts promotion.
